Housing co-ops exist for lots of reasons, but basically they are a way for people to get something more from their housing by working together. The opportunity to share resources and skills has benefits for co-op members as well as for the environment. Contact Community Housing Canberra on 6248 7716 for more information on the different co-ops and other forms of community-run housing in the ACT.
The ANU has an accomodation service with its own website: http://www.anu.edu.au/accom/housingonline where you can not only look for places to live or people to live with, but enter your own details. It works. The ANU also offers a rent guarantee for students who are finding accomodation difficult to get. Check the ANU accomodation website.
Vacant Lot, an accommodation offered & wanted list, is announced at 1:15pm and 5:15pm during the week on Community Radio 2XX, 98.3 fm. To place an announcement, see the Information Resources section for 2XX’s contact details. When building or renovating, use green products and companies.
